CareerEdge Funders Collaborative, a national-award-winning workforce and business innovation initiative, is making waves by turning the traditional model for workforce investment in Florida on its head. CareerEdge partners directly with employers in fast-growing sectors in the regional economy, to help them fill skills gaps and meet their employment needs, while at the same time assisting individuals in entering the workforce and moving up career ladders. CareerEdge is a cutting-edge initiative and is transforming the way stakeholders in the region and around the state look at career training.

MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to provide an exceptional labor force to a region’s growing industries by leveraging community assets and forming high-performing workforce partnerships.

VISION STATEMENT: CareerEdge will be known as the region’s distinguished workforce development organization that promotes economic prosperity through strong employer-labor and community partnerships.

CareerEdge is the first Funders Collaborative designated as a National Fund for Workforce Solutions site in the Southeastern US. National Apprenticeship Week!

From November 13th to the 19th the nation celebrates the third annual National Apprenticeship Week.  Events across the country will focus on preparing a highly-skilled workforce to meet the talent needs of employers across diverse industries.  One way we can prepare a diverse workforce is by developing apprenticeship programs within our communities.  To see more events being offered in our region, click here. 

Sarasota County’s Working Population and Future Change

The Sarasota Herald Tribune is embarking on a series to share the major impact of population growth, age and skills gaps in our working population and other important economic factors.  Mireya Eavey, Executive Director of CareerEdge and Sarasota Area President of United Way Suncoast, and other CareerEdge Funders all offered expertise on these topics and how we can better prepare our community.  Read the full Herald Tribune Sarasota Drift Series here.

Florida Chamber and the Future of Florida’s Workforce

The Florida Chamber Foundation recently shared its latest report, Florida Jobs 2030. The report says that, by 2030, Florida will add six million more residents and need two million net new jobs. The report provides recommendations for stakeholders to work together to provide Florida’s future and current workers with the skills and credentials to compete in a global economy. CareerEdge Graduates First Express Course

In October, ten new automotive technicians graduated from Suncoast Technical College’s Automotive Technician express program.  The program was started by CareerEdge in partnership with Gettel Automotive to help the students have paid work experience during the training and then enter into a full time position with the company upon graduation. Career Quest Participant Spotlight

United Way Suncoast and CareerEdge have partnered to create a college savings/ work experience program for low income high school students in Sarasota County.  Employers who hire a paid intern can receive up to $1000 in reimbursement and the students get a valuable career experience.  Students also are involved in a college saving program which gives them financial awareness and the ability to start saving for college.
