CareerEdge Profiled in National Report

The International Economic Development council recently released a report about the changing landscape of workforce "learning systems." CareerEdge is 1 of 5 national workforce development organizations profiled in the document, titled Chutes & Ladders: The New Rules of the Game for Upskilling Workers.   According to the report, CareerEdge's success has been attributable in part to relationships with regional economic development organizations. The council also highlighted CareerEdge's reliance on data to drive its workforce investments, stating that it shows a "proactive, demand-driven approach to workforce development that benefits both local employers and workers."

Sarasota County Commissioners Applaud the Work of CareerEdge

CareerEdge recently provided an update to the Sarasota Board of County Commissioners and was congratulated for its positive contributions and impact in the Sarasota region.  Commissioner Christine Robinson said, “These programs would not have happened without Mireya lighting that fire… It is a pretty big deal to deal with multiple levels of government and then to have the programs be successful, and we appreciate that.” By focusing on building skilled workers in the region, CareerEdge is implementing true economic impact.

Local Wages on the Rise

At CareerEdge's recent Jobs, Jobs, Jobs event, U.C. professor Dr. Chris Benner reported that overall average payrolls across all sectors have been rising since 2012, saying this was a 'good sign' for our local economy.  In addition, the Sarasota-Manatee region added 5,200 jobs for the 12-month period ending in August, the ninth best rate of job growth in the state's 22 metro areas, according to Dr. Jerry Parrish, Chief Economist for the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation who also presented at the event.  Manufacturing was the fastest growth sector, with Construction, Technical and Professional Services, Healthcare, and Transportation Services also experiencing solid growth.

Employer Case Study

PGT recently developed a case study report summarizing the positive results they have received from the CareerEdge training programs. CareerEdge continues to partner with local window manufacturer PGT Industries to provide multiple training programs for its more than 2000 employees.  Several of the programs offered are nationally recognized, industry-specific certification programs, such as Manufacturing Skill Standards council (MSSC), Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), and American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). CareerEdge also supports leadership, soft skills training and adult basic education programs.

“These programs provide career pathways toward employee growth and development; increase employee retention rates, maximize employee potential, and provide employees greater job security, increased quality of life and earning potential while creating a constant supply of new jobs.  However, growth of spirit and confidence can’t be monetized. These programs have meant a lot to our employees.”
