What is OJT?
On-the-job training (OJT) is a hands-on method of teaching employees the knowledge and skills needed to perform a specific job. It allows employees to gain experience working in situations very similar to those they’ll encounter on a daily basis guided by an experienced trainer and/or subject matter expert. Employees earn a paycheck while learning in the actual environment where the work is performed.
EMPLOYERS
Funding will be awarded once the training experience is approved prior to the training beginning and all feedback forms have been received at the end of the training period, including proof of wages. Wage reimbursement is based upon available resources and meeting employer requirements.
EMPLOYER REQUIREMENTS
Application requirements for Employers:
- Employer must be located in Manatee or Sarasota County.
- Employer must pay a minimum of $15.00/hour to participating employees.
- Employer must receive an email approval from CareerEdge prior to the training beginning for the wage reimbursement.
- Employer agrees to provide a meaningful, skills-based internship experience.
- A maximum of two OJT wage reimbursements allowed per organization per calendar year.
- Employer must fall into one of the following industry categories:
- Manufacturing
- Healthcare
- Insurance
- Skill Trades
- Automotive

Reimbursement Fee Schedule
- The employee being trained must be earning a minimum of $15.00 per hour.
- CareerEdge reimburses $6.50 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for a 10-week period. This results in a maximum wage reimbursement of $2,600 for one (1) employee.
- If the training period is less than the maximum training period, or the hours worked is less than 40 hours per week, CareerEdge will reimburse for the time period and the number of hours worked stated in this application, at $6.50 per hour.
