What is OJT?
On-the-job training (OJT) is a hands-on method of teaching employees the knowledge and skills needed to perform a specific job. It allows employees to gain experience working in situations very similar to those they’ll encounter on a daily basis guided by an experienced trainer and/or subject matter expert. Employees earn a paycheck while learning in the actual environment where the work is performed.
Benefits of OJT
- Assist low-wage and low-skill workers in obtaining employment at livable and competitive wages
- Help individuals obtain industry recognized certifications
- Help employers develop critical skills needed to remain competitive and retain talent
- To help reduce employee turnover and increase job satisfaction
