United Way Suncoast and CareerEdge have partnered to create a college savings/ work experience program for low income high school students in Sarasota County.  Employers who hire a paid intern can receive up to $1000 in reimbursement and the students get a valuable career experience.  Students also are involved in a college saving program which gives them financial awareness and the ability to start saving for college. STC, CareerEdge Partner for Certification Program

CareerEdge and Suncoast Technical College are teaming up again for a tuition-free Plumbing Technician course.  The class will be 9 months long and will meet Monday -Friday 7:30am-2:15pm.  An information session will take place in August for all interested applicants.  See the flyer below for more information.

What Does Tax Reform Mean for Low- and Moderate-Income Workers?

Executive Director of CareerEdge and United Way Suncoast Sarasota Area President, Mireya Eavey, recently sat on a panel for the Aspen Institute to discuss tax reform and the effects it has on low-income families.  The panel also included Alex Brill of the American Enterprise Institute and Frank Clemente, Executive Director of Americans for Tax Fairness.  The discussion was also live streamed on C-SPAN 3, to view the video click here.

CareerEdge and Manatee Technical College Express Courses

Tuition-free plumbing and electrical express courses, funded by CareerEdge Funders Collaborative, will be offered at Manatee Technical College.  Orientation for all interested individuals will be held on June 15th at 6pm at Manatee Technical College, 6305 State Rd. 70 East, Bradenton Fl 34203. CareerEdge Spearheading Short-Term Certification Programs SRQ Magazine

SRQ Magazine shared information on the CareerEdge funded plumbing and electrician express courses at Manatee Technical College.  Over 100 individuals showed up for the information session in hopes of joining the classes.  Plumbing and electricians are both in high-demand, with employers actively searching for qualified workers.  To read more about the express courses, click here.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune also recently reported that the development of skilled labor has proven difficult for many employers.  Local Bradenton manufacturer, Veethree Instruments, has been in hiring mode but they are unable to find the qualified individuals to fill the many spots.  The President/CEO of the Bradenton Area Economic Development Council, Sharon Hillstrom, says that the key to changing this cycle is listening to employers.  To read the entire article, click here.

New Fast-Track Training Program Assists Aspiring Auto Mechanics

CareerEdge tuition free automotive technician program starts July 17, 2017.  Candidates must go through an interviewing process with Gettel Automotive and once hired they will receive $12 an hour; while they are enrolled in the 10 week night course at Suncoast Technical College. CareerEdge Collaborates for Apprenticeship Programs

CareerEdge Funders Collaborative will be working with both Manatee Technical College(MTC) and Suncoast Technical College (STC).

At STC, CareerEdge will fund an automotive express program.  Students will be screened and interviewed by Gettel Automotive for employment and then once employed they will attend a 10 week tuition free automotive tech certification program.  They will leave the program employed by Gettel for $13 and hour and will have many opportunities to career-ladder within the organization.

At MTC, CareerEdge and the college are supporting plumbing and electrician express courses.  Both of the courses will be tuition free and students will be entering into high-demand industries that are actively seeking workers that are trained and qualified.

Report: $10M investment leads to 4,000 workers trained

CareerEdge was featured in the Business Observer for the release of the 2016 Impact Report.

Since CareerEdge Funders Collaborative began seven years ago, data has been collected to showcase the impact the non-profit and its funders have had on the community.  The organization has just released a report which captures the measurable outcomes that have resulted from investments made by CareerEdge and its partners towards workforce development in the region.  With the 2016 Impact Report, CareerEdge hopes to show the region the return on investment of these innovative workforce strategies, which affect both the local economy and help workers to earn family-sustaining wages. CareerEdge helps job seekers earn high demand credentials and attain employment, and gives employees a chance to build career-laddering skills, while helping local employers close skills gaps in growing industries.
